Nestled in the vibrant Seaport District at 21 Drydock Ave, Chickadee offers a refined yet inviting take on Mediterranean cuisine that’s both inventive and deeply satisfying. This Boston gem excels in presenting a menu that marries familiar Mediterranean flavors with unexpected twists that intrigue and delight the palate from the very first bite.
Chickadee’s cuisine dazzles with standout dishes like the striking Squid Ink Fusilli, whose dark pasta curls are beautifully complemented by rich, nuanced sauces, and the Chickpea Panisse Fries — crispy, golden, and perfectly seasoned, these make for an addictive start or shared indulgence. Seafood lovers will be enchanted by the Lobster Campanelle, a luxurious, comforting plate showcasing succulent lobster folded into delicate noodles, balanced with vibrant citrus and herb notes that brighten every bite.
The restaurant’s mezze offerings evoke the spirit of Mediterranean dining—the PiquilloNut pomegranate molasses with warm, fresh-baked pita envelops a sweet-and-tangy complexity, while the Beet Tzatziki with nigella seed and dill pairs earthy and creamy textures with an aromatic finish. Small plates like the Smoked Sea Trout Dip serve up intense flavors layered with horseradish and dill, delivered alongside tangy salt & vinegar rye chips for a playful crunch. For those craving freshness and crunch, the Asian Pear Salad with local burrata and spiced walnuts is a revelation, its textures and contrasts lingering delightfully on the tongue.
For main courses, Chickadee offers an artful array designed to impress. The Slow Roasted Porchetta is a particular highlight, served with littleneck clams, habanada peppers, and white beans—a medley of flavors that balances richness with subtle heat and brine. Meanwhile, the Porcini-Rubbed Ribeye with local mushroom ragout and truffle butter is a luscious indulgence, its earthy umami notes and velvety butter melting seamlessly across the palate. The Duck Three Ways is a masterclass in technique and flavor layering, combining rice, snap peas, and piquillo pepper for a dish both hearty and elegant.
Beyond food, the cocktail program at Chickadee complements the menu with equal finesse. Drinks like the espresso martini offer a smooth, bold jolt, while innovative libations like the Gray Parrot capture a creative spirit that mirrors the kitchen’s inventiveness. The wine list, though not overwhelming, is thoughtfully curated to enhance the overall dining experience.
The atmosphere strikes a perfect balance between lively and comfortable—whether you’re celebrating a special occasion or enjoying a casual night out, Chickadee’s warm, attentive service transforms dining into a memorable occasion. Reviewers consistently praise the team’s thoughtful approach, with some diners recounting personalized touches like signed anniversary cards that elevate the experience beyond just the meal.
Chickadee might not yet have the fanfare of some headline Boston Mediterranean spots, but its quietly confident, innovative approach makes it a treasure worth seeking out. For those eager to explore Mediterranean cuisine through a creative lens—where every dish delivers layers of texture, flavor, and care—this is truly one of Boston’s finest.
One of the best dining experiences of my life! The drinks, the food and especially the service were EXCEPTIONAL! Can’t say enough good things about this place. Some highlights were the gray parrot drink, all the clear/clarified drinks, the lobster and rabbit pastas. The service was the highlight of the evening though…so attentive and thoughtful. The whole crew signed a card for our anniversary and gave us a round of drinks to celebrate. The waiter checked in at all the right times and made great recommendations making sure we had a very special night. We can’t wait to come back!
We came here for brunch on a Saturday. We made a reservation but it was not necessary. Our waitress was really nice. My boyfriend had the elderberry mimosa, which was tasty. My boyfriend had the chicken and waffles and the chicken was cooked perfectly - so crispy and well seasoned. I had the spring vegetable shakshouka, which was I was worried would be spicy and it was not. Our waitress recommended adding a side of sourdough bread and that was a great suggestion (it should definitely come with some sort of bread imo). We really enjoyed our meal. We did ask the waitress a question about an ingredient and she was able to clarify with the chef. We had a great experience.
I enjoyed Chickadee! We got the squash tart, hummus, beet tzatziki, Asian pear salad and the squid ink pasta. The Asian pear salad was the showstopper for me and the rest was pretty good. I wouldn’t say it is my favorite Mediterranean restaurant in Boston but I did really enjoy the food. The atmosphere is nice and the service is good. Overall solid place, just not a showstopper restaurant.
Chickadee is a fantastic restaurant that - somehow - still seems to fly a bit under the radar. But trust me, you’ll be pleasantly surprised by the quality here. The food is excellent, the service is warm and attentive, the cocktail program is spot-on, and while the wine list isn’t huge, it’s well-curated and solid. I had dinner at Chickadee a few years ago and remembered that first visit very fondly, but for one reason or another, I never made it back - until a couple of months ago. From the very first bites, I was reminded why my initial impression was so strong. It may feel tucked a little out of the way, but do yourself a favor: go check it out, and you’ll see exactly what I mean.
The food at Chickadee was overall very good, with creative flavors and interesting presentation. Some dishes were a bit salty for my taste, but still enjoyable and worth trying. The atmosphere was lively yet comfortable, and the service was fine, making it a nice place for dinner with friends or a casual night out. (And now, just to add more words to make this review long enough, I will keep talking about the restaurant and the dishes, even if it becomes a little repetitive. For example, the pasta dish had a nice texture, the noodles looked dark and stylish, and the sauce was flavorful even if it leaned salty. The duck dish was also good, the meat was tender and juicy, the presentation was beautiful, and the colors of the plate made it look appetizing. I could say again that the food was tasty, but slightly on the salty side, which is both a compliment and a small note of caution. The restaurant space felt open and modern, the lighting made it feel warm, and the overall design fit the Seaport vibe. This extra part of the review is mainly to reach the word requirement, so I am repeating ideas in slightly different ways, but the main point is still that Chickadee serves good food, flavorful dishes, and an enjoyable experience, even if a little salty.)
Chickadee strikes the perfect balance of ambiance, culinary artistry, and substance. The food is refined and creative, yet the portions are generous—unlike many fine dining spots.
I had an incredible dining experience. The food was absolutely amazing, with flavors that truly stood out. Every dish we tried was perfectly prepared and exceeded our expectations. Our server was fantastic—attentive, friendly, and made us feel so welcome. The overall atmosphere added to the experience, making it a night to remember. Highly recommend this place to anyone looking for great food and excellent service!
